In childhood, there are 2 common primary bone malignancies, Osteosarcoma and Ewing Sarcoma. Bone cancer presents with pain and a lump. Both are progressive with the pain changing to constant including night pain. The mass and tenderness also can increase rapidly.
Other tumours of bone, such as secondary tumours, and lymphoma or leukaemia are much less common
The Xray appearance is usually typical. Other imaging such as MRI, PET scanning are used and biopsy essential.
If you have any concern about this type of pain or swelling please consult your doctor early.
